Kick-off meeting for the Implementation Support Mission for KEWASIP

Background

The Government of Kenya (GoK), through the State Department for Forestry (SDF) and in collaboration with the World Bank (WB), has developed the Kenya Watershed Services Improvement Project (KEWASIP). The Project is designed to address the critical need to restore degraded landscapes, strengthen the management of natural resources, and enhance ecosystem services, with the aim of improving climate resilience and supporting diversified livelihoods.

Message from the National Project Coordinator

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Kenya Watershed Services Improvement Project (KEWASIP) website, a platform through which we share our journey, achievements, lessons, and impact across Kenya. KEWASIP is a flagship Government of Kenya initiative implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry through the State Department for Forestry, with financing from the World Bank. The Project supports Kenya’s broader agenda of restoring degraded landscapes, strengthening ecosystem services, addressing climate-related challenges, and improving community livelihoods. At the heart of KEWASIP is a clear ambition: to restore landscapes while creating sustainable opportunities for communities. We are working with communities and partners to promote sustainable land and watershed management, restore degraded ecosystems, enhance productivity, and strengthen resilience through nature-based solutions. Our success will be measured not only by landscapes restored, but by the lives transformed.

Community Support & Eligibility

The project provides financial and technical support to promote participatory identification and implementation of micro-watershed restoration and livelihood sub-projects.

Target Groups:

Common Interest Groups (CIGs) Minority & Marginalized (MMGs) Vulnerable Communities (VCs)

Grant Categories & Funding

Focusing on Hydroshed Action Plan implementation and Livelihood Restoration through a transparent evaluation process.

Grants will be selected based on a transparent criterion guided by clearly defined eligibility and objective technical evaluation criteria, applied consistently across all applicants to ensure fairness, accountability, and value for money.
