Background
About KEWASIP
The Government of Kenya (GoK), through the State Department for Forestry (SDF) and in collaboration with the World Bank (WB), has developed the Kenya Watershed Services Improvement Project (KEWASIP). The Project is designed to address the critical need to restore degraded landscapes, strengthen the management of natural resources, and enhance ecosystem services, with the aim of improving climate resilience and supporting diversified livelihoods.
Supporting Kenya’s National Restoration Agenda
KEWASIP will be implemented over a period of five (5) years and is anchored in the National Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Strategy (NLERS), which targets the restoration and conservation of 10.6 million hectares of degraded landscapes and ecosystems by 2032 under the 15 Billion Trees Growing Initiative.
A collaborative intergovernmental effort
The Project will be implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry (MoECCF) through the State Department for Forestry, in collaboration with twelve (12) participating counties, namely: Baringo, Meru, Kitui, Tharaka Nithi, Samburu, Isiolo, Marsabit, Makueni, Garissa, Kwale, Tana River, and Laikipia.
